Prayer Point - Confidence in Promises
On Oct 29th, I preached my first sermon on how God's word is his bond. (Yeah God!) I haven't stopped praising God for the fulfillment of promise in my life that occurred on that night. And when I went to my word the very next morning, he took that word a bit farther by pointing me to Hebrews 10. This book is best known for its statements on faith and as I read Hebrews 10, God began to use the concept of faith to increase my understanding of his promise.
Sometimes we forget that believing in a promise is far beyond simply "trusting" someone but is ultimately about your faith—for it is our faith that ties us to his promise. It is the fact that we believe in the impossible, that we believe in his ability to do exceedingly above what we've asked, and that we stand by that belief that shows us and demonstrates to others how much we have allowed God to be Lord of our lives. That is the fruit of our testimony. And, as I said that night, it is as much about believing in your heart as it is about what you confess with your mouth.
Even our instructions around salvation (Rom 10:9) say that our transformation is linked to the integration of the two—believing and speaking. So it seemed only fitting to take a minute out of this somewhat dreary day to remind each of you that today is the perfect day to continue confessing all the things that God has promised. His word is true and it says "Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful." And I like what it says in verse 35-38… "Therefore do not cast your confidence, which has great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise: 'For yet a little while, and He who is coming will come and will not tarry. Now the just shall live by faith; but if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him'."
What a wonderful word! Today, as you go through your ups and downs, remember that God has got it all under control and that you are commanded to stand strong in the knowledge of his power. Don't "cast away" your confidence in Him and his Word. Hold fast to whatever it is he has promised and it will come to pass.
